Changing lives: Countdown to Men's 10k in Glasgow on Father's Day

Men's health is the central message behind the Men's 10k event which takes place in Glasgow at the weekend.

O rganisers of the Men's 10k run say they hope to have inspired men to make a positive change to their lives.

Thousands of competitors will be counting down the week in preparation for the big event which starts in the West End this Sunday June 19 - Father's Day.

Marketing co-ordinator Mike Christoforou said the Men's 10k was about making a difference to men's lives through health.

He said: "We're looking forward to another stellar year for the Men's 10K.

"The Glasgow event is now a well-established and integral part of Scotland's running calendar and its unique atmosphere keeps guys coming back every year."

But he said: "It's important to stress that the Men's 10K is not about hammering 10K in the quickest possible time.

"Our aim is to inspire men in Scotland and beyond to make a positive change to their lives, and the event is the perfect catalyst for that."

The first Men’s 10K took place in Glasgow 10 years ago.

Entry: Around 4,000 competitors have entered this event this year, many of them raising money for charity.

The event was started by the Men's Health Forum Scotland as a focal point for raising awareness of men’s health issues.

Since its inception, the Men's 10k event has now positively touched the lives of more than 30,000 men.

It is now a major event on both the running and health event calendars, attracting 4,000 men and growing each year.

The event starts at the Riverside Museum at 10am next Sunday, and heads along the Clyde and in to the city centre where it finishes at George Square.

Many good causes benefit as a result of the fundraising undertaken by runners.

Scores of volunteers give up their time to help run the event.

Called the Crew, the role of volunteers is numerous and varied, including start team marshals, course marshals and finish area crew and hydration crew.

The Great Women's 10k was held earlier this month, returning to the West End after several years being held on the Southside.
