Partick beat is backdrop for new series of BBC Scotland hit comedy Scot Squad

Scot Squad production crew causes a stir as filming of hit BBC Scotland comedy Scot Squad comes to Partick.

P atrick's Mansfield Park was the location for a TV shoot for the third series of BBC cop spoof Scot Squad.

A full crew, plus show star James Kirk, who plays Volunteer Officer Ken Beattie, spent hours around the park, at the junction of Dumbarton Road and Hyndland Street.

Proceedings were supervised by two real-life officers from Police Scotland, which is gently lampooned in the hit show after its creation from the old regional forces.

The series also satirises TV cop documentaries such as Road Wars and Police Interceptors.

Hit: Comedy Scot Squad is now into its third series.

Officer Ken is one of the regular characters, always well-intentioned but taken advantage of by streetwise Scots. Actor James, 28, from Paisley, came to prominence playing the role of Jeff the chef in Gary: Tank Commander.

The BBC confirmed earlier that camera teams had been deployed in Glasgow "as the law keepers return for another arresting mix of comedy and crime".

The new series will comprise six more episodes, plus a Christmas special. As in previous series, the show is expected to feature a number of guest stars, who "will be announced in due course".

Time-out: Actor James Kirk takes a breather from filming in Mansfield Park on Wednesday.

Ewan Angus from BBC Scotland said: "It'll be great to welcome the Squad back. The previous series have been in high demand as a training resource for police forces worldwide."

Executive Producer Rab Christie said: "The Comedy Unit is delighted to be filming a third series of Scot Squad for BBC Scotland.

"From chief to volunteer, the nation's heroes are pumped and ready to get back out and tackle crime in all its guises - on the street, on the phone, at the desk.

Comedy: Actor James Kirk aka Officer Ken strikes a pose filming in Partick.

"The cast of cops and robbers includes brand new comic talent, familiar faces and one or two national treasures who rub shoulders with the Squad."

Scot Squad will film in locations around Glasgow for the next six weeks with the resultant series expected to be broadcast on BBC One Scotland in the winter.
