Eight guest restaurants on the menu for Let's Eat Glasgow! pop-up food festival

Eight guest restaurants are announced for a major food festival with a social conscience taking place in West End.

A mouth-watering line-up of guest restaurants has been announced for this year's Let's Eat Glasgow! food festival, which takes place in the West End in September.

The guest eateries are Banana Leaf, Café Gandolfi, El Perro Negro, Eusebis, Hanoi Bike Shop, Lychee Oriental, Martha’s and Wee Guy's.

The festival is staged by the not-for-profit co-operative, Real Food, Real Folk, made up of eight founding restaurants: Cail Bruich, Crabshakk, Guy’s Restaurant, Mother India, Ox and Finch, Stravaigin, The Gannet and Ubiquitous Chip.

The group formed to challenge Glasgow’s traditional reputation for food, while at the same time using their skills, passion for good food and ability to raise funds to help those suffering from food poverty or poverty of awareness.

Last week a group of chefs from Real Food, Real Folk served up a community dinner in Bridgeton to highlight the festival's aim of addressing food inequality across the City.

The dinner was initiated by social enterprise The East Ate in association with Glasgow NE Food-bank to provide access to fresh, nutritious food in a communal setting.

By collaborating with chefs from Real Food, Real Folk, the meals provided access to exciting food options which are not readily available in the area.

Real Food, Real Folk chefs from Mother India and the Ox & Finch chefs created and prepared meals using local produce, including edible flowers & herbs from The East Ate’s own growing space.

A festival spokeswoman said: "The Let's Eat Glasgow festival is the UK's first major food and drink festival with a deeper social purpose at heart.

"It aims to showcase the best food, drink and produce that Glasgow and the West of Scotland has to offer, while at the same time addressing the food inequality that still exists across the City."

Let’s Eat Glasgow! takes place at SWG3 in Finnieston on September 3 and 4.

More than 7,000 visitors from across the country gathered at last year’s inaugural Let’s Eat Glasgow! festival, which is free to enter.

They enjoyed 10,000 plates of food, a market packed with exciting fresh produce, entertaining cooking demonstrations with celebrities and Live music.

The event, which has already been short-listed for a number of awards is almost doubling in size this year with twice the number of restaurants and many more producer stands from across the West of Scotland.

Last year advance food vouchers sold out early and already more than 2,000 vouchers have been sold this year so event organisers are urging everyone to buy early to be sure of enjoying delicious plates at the festival.

Visitors will enjoy restaurant food at festival prices with plates priced at £5 once again. There will also be a number of plates priced at £7.50 and £10.

Vouchers are available for either Saturday or Sunday and valid for that day only. Those planning to visit the restaurants on both days should ensure they purchase vouchers for both days.

Menus and prices will be announced shortly.
