Three workmen hurt after wall collapses during building work in Vinicombe Street

Health and safety officials launch investigation after building accident that leaves workmen needing hospital treatment.

Three workmen have been injured after a wall collapsed in Vinicombe Street in the west end of Glasgow.

Reports said two of the builders were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and another was treated at the scene.

The incident happened within the vicinity of the former Arnold Clark garage where preparatory work has been ongoing ahead of refurbishment.

Emergency services were alerted to the collapse at around 2pm on Friday.

Officials from Glasgow City Council’s building control were notified.

Health and Safety Executive officials are investigating.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “The injuries of those affected are not thought to be life threatening.

"Two of the men were taken to hospital by ambulance and another was treated at the scene.”

The latest wall collapse follows a similar incident on nearby Benalder Street in August, when the wall of a restaurant roof garden fell on to the street below.

No one was injured in that incident, but businesses and residents are still waiting to return to the premises.
