Goodbye Neighbourhood as Taphouse Bar & Kitchen takes its place on Argyle Street

Owner Phil invests in a new look for his bar in Finnieston which is one of the hippest places to hang out in Scotland.

A popular Finnieston bar and diner has been given a major overhaul and a new name - Taphouse Bar & Kitchen.

The establishment at 1046 Argyle Street was formerly Neighbourhood Bar & Kitchen.

But owner Phil McDonald wanted to breathe new life into the Finnieston boozer with a total rebrand and makeover.

"I've had this place for eight years - we were Neighbourhood Bar & Kitchen, and one of the early ones in Finnieston.

"But we recently decided to take a change in direction, so we are now called the Taphouse Bar & Kitchen.

"We are serving craft beers and ales and doing gourmet burgers and pizzas."

Why did he think a change was needed? Phil: "Probably just because of the way that Finnieston has become.

"It is obviously the Shoreditch of Glasgow, so people are spending a lot of money on their premises in the area.

"And we felt that we needed to up our game as well."

And what will customers experience in the new-look bar? Phil: "I think they will get the same great service but now they will have a far better unit to enjoy the experience.

"You can't afford to stand still in a place like Finnieston - or you get left behind.

"I'm really happy with what we have done."

Phil paid tribute to his contractors, GID Contracts Scotland Ltd, who pulled out all the stops to finish the job on time and to a high standard.

"Contractwise, GID Contracts from Edinburgh were smashing - they did a great job.

"They actually turned this around in 11 days which I think is nothing shy of amazing."

Phil said of the opening event: "We've got a mix of friends and family with us tonight.

"We have also invited local businesses because that is important in an area like this - because Finnieston on the strip is really a small community.

"Especially for myself who has been here for eight years, I know a lot of people on the street.

"It was really important for me to have them in, show them what we're doing, give them some drinks and a wee taste of the menu and for them to hopefully enjoy the experience and continue to come in."
