A fox scavenging at night is among new wildlife photos on display at Kelvingrove

Exhibition marks 10-year long partnership between RSPB Scotland and the city's premier museum and visitor attraction.

A new exhibition of amateur wildlife photos is going on show at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

A fox out at night hunting for food in the city's streets and a spider's web at sunrise are among the wonderful snaps.

The gallery of images is part of a celebration of work that is being done to conserve the city's wildlife.

The exhibition has been organised to mark a partnership between Kelvingrove gallery and the conservation charity RSPB Scotland.

It is 10 years since the two came together to educate the city about its amazing and varied wildlife.

In that time, the work has evolved into what is now the Giving Nature a Home in Glasgow (GNAHG) project which works with schools and volunteers.

Fiona Weir heads the project for RSPB Scotland.

“It’s amazing to think that this project has been running for ten years now, and in that time we’ve reached well over 100,000 people, right across the city.

“What’s special about Glasgow is that even in this truly urban landscape, there’s a massive amount of wildlife to be found.

"Peregrine falcons nest in the city, bluebells bloom along the edge of the motorway, and deer can be seen grazing in graveyards many miles from the countryside."

Fiona added: "Helping people to discover, celebrate and become involved in conserving urban wildlife has been at the heart of this project since it began, and long may it continue.

“A huge thank you has to go out to everyone who’s helped us make it this far, including Glasgow Life, Scottish Natural Heritage, and Glasgow City Council as well as the many many individuals who’ve been involved through the years.”

The exhibition also celebrates the culmination of the Dear Green Futures programme, which has been running since 2015.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, it was set up to help wildlife and people make use of the city's greenspaces.

A short film made by the project will also be part of the exhibition.

Elsewhere innovative designs for swift boxes will be on display.

Head of Glasgow Museums Duncan Dornan said: “We are delighted our successful partnership with RSPB Scotland has reached this significant milestone and we are looking forward to seeing the photography competition entries.

"We’re sure visitors will enjoy taking in the stunning images, which will perfectly complement the recently redisplayed Life Gallery at Kelvingrove Museum."

The exhibition is free and is on display in the North Lunchroom of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

It opens on Friday May 19 from 2pm and thereafter runs until May 26 during museum opening hours.
