Construction to start on controversial Park Quadrant 'missing link' apartments

One-bedroomed apartments with study start at £299,000 in the luxury development.

Work will begin next month on a major housing scheme at Park Quadrant in the West End.

The vacant site was hotly contested until developers were finally granted planning permission for nearly 100 new apartments.

Expresso Property Park Quadrant Limited now says the missing piece of a 19th century masterplan for Park Circus is about to begin.

They say the luxury development, Park Quadrant Residences, will complete the original concentric ringed design.

And one-bedroomed apartments in the luxury development will start at £299,000.

The 98 apartments and penthouses will match the height and aesthetic of the original plans envisioned by architect Charles Wilson in 1851.

Due to a lack of funding the plans were halted before they were finished and the area has been undeveloped, until now.

Work: Construction will begin on the missing link development in June.

Developers say the buildings have been "thoughtfully designed to be sympathetic to the area’s rich heritage".

Natural sandstone will be used to complement the palette of materials used within Park Circus, they say.

Gordon Coster, director at Expresso Property Park Quadrant Limited, said the new one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments, duplex and penthouses would be some of the most luxurious in the country.

“We are very proud to be completing this missing piece in Glasgow’s history with the development of Park Quadrant Residences.

COMPLETED MASTERPLAN

"These new homes will be some of the most luxurious in the country and our aim is that the development will be something that the whole community will be proud of.”

David Gardner, architect at Holmes Miller, said: “The Park Quadrant Residences have been designed to celebrate being part of the completed masterplan, whilst having their own confident architectural language.

"The design creates a subtle contemporary reinterpretation of various key elements including the window proportions, stonework detail and feature entrances.

"We believe Park Quadrant Residences are a fitting tribute to Charles Wilson’s original plans and a crowning jewel in the Park area.”

Works will begin towards the end of June.
