Jenny McCreary, who runs the business in Finnieston, says men are welcome to come along.

"We do classes for women, but women tend to want to make things - men just seem to want to repair things.

"People think sewing takes for ever to get into, but after one session guys can be sewing away quite happily."

Sew Confident is tucked away in the Hidden Lane, off Argyle Street.

According to its Facebook page, its mission is simply: 'To give everyone the skills and confidence to get sewing.

'Whether it is to save a fortune on the livingroom curtains by making them yourself or to enrich your life and chill out with small projects, we'll help you achieve it!'

Jenny says: "We have been in busy for just over five years now - we've been in Hidden Lane for almost three years.

"Most of the classes are just general classes, nothing gender specific.

"We do dress making, we do beginners' classes, we do quilting - all kinds of things like that."

She added: "When we get the guys in, it is a totally different dynamic.

"There's just as much as chat as the women, but the men want to know how the machines work.

"They want to know how the stitches go together.

"We get quite a lot of engineers in the classes - who want to take a screwdriver and see how these things work.

"I have to tell then, 'no - we're not going to take the machines to pieces today!'
