Home interiors shop Bluebellgray to bring splash of colour to former Hyndland bank

The Hyndland opening at the end of April will be the studio's first bricks and mortar store.

A Glasgow print design studio is opening up in the Art Deco former bank on Hyndland Road.

Bluebellgray has its roots in Glasgow where it was set up in 2009 by Glasgow School of Art graduate Fi Douglas.

In that time it has gone on to sell its collection of home interior products in several countries.

The Hyndland opening at the end of April will be the studio's first bricks and mortar store.

Founder and owner Fi said: "I truly believe in the importance of keeping the independent high street alive.

"And living in a digital age, I think it is more relevant than ever to give customers a unique, special and personal experience when they choose to shop in person.

"We are bucking the trend by being an online retailer who is now branching out into a physical store.

"But I really believe there is a magic in real life shopping and the joy of discovering and falling in love with a special item in person will never get old."

Fi added: "I want our store to feel welcoming and happy - somewhere where customers can come and discover the uplifting power of bringing colour into their home."

The former B-listed building closed as an RBS bank several years ago.

It was most recently home to West End estate agent Vanilla Square, which is now based on Great Western Road.

Fi's team have undertaken a full interior renovation of the building.

The new building will house a design studio and a showroom to display products.

Bluebellgray's website says the brand "is all about fresh, uplifting and modern prints to add joyful colour to your home".

"The very first six cushions Fi originally created on her kitchen table," the website says, "have grown into a full range of homeware including bedding, fabric, wallpaper, rugs and tableware, all in her signature colourful, handpainted, watercolour style.

"Everything is created originally in the brand’s beautiful, studio in Scotland, staying true to the original vision - Fi still paints all the signature designs that have become synonymous with the brand."

The building was designed by architect James McLachlan and opened in 1934.

According to the Canmore architectural records site, the building features "Egyptian-inspired incised Art Deco façade details".
