'We'll need the public's help to find those behind this targeted shooting in Maryhill'

The 29-year-old victim was shot twice in the head as he sat in a silver BMW car which was being driven by a woman.

Detectives say they need the support of the community as they investigate a shooting that left a man critically injured.

Reports have named the man locally as Kenny Reilly.

The shooting happened at traffic lights on Bilsland Drive, near to Maryhill Road at around 10.20pm on Monday (April 16).

A black car pulled up to the BMW and a passenger got out and shot Mr Reilly in the head.

The suspect, who was wearing a black balaclava, got back into the car and it sped off in the direction of Maryhill Road.

Police and ambulance attended and the victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was being treated for his injuries.

ATTEMPTED MURDER

Hospital staff described his condition as critical. The incident is being treated as attempted murder.

A short time later a black people carrier was found burnt out at Craigieburn Gardens, Maryhill.

Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham is with Greater Glasgow Division.

“Whoever is responsible for this shooting clearly has no regard for the safety of those living in this busy residential area, and they must be caught.

“We are continuing our enquiries today to establish a motive for this crime, and although we believe that this was a targeted attack and that the 29 year-old man was the intended victim, we are pursuing all lines of enquiry.

"Extensive forensic examinations are ongoing in both Bilsland Drive and Craigieburn Gardens where the burnt-out vehicle was found.

'PURSUING ALL LINES'

“Officers are pursuing all lines of enquiry, however we do need the help and support of the local community.

Police urge anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area prior to the shooting, any witnesses to the incident, or who has any information whatsoever to contact Maryhill Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 4332 of 16th April.

Chief Inspector Vicky Little from Maryhill Police Office said: “We are aware that the local community will be extremely concerned about this incident.

"High visibility patrols are being carried out in the area and an incident caravan is being set up in the vicinity.

"Members of the public are encouraged to speak to the police about any concerns they may have.”
