UPDATE: Man, 20, arrested after a woman, 51, is attacked inside a flat in Jordanhill

A force helicopter and armed police were part of an ongoing operation throughout the evening.

A man has been arrested over the alleged attempted murder of a woman in Jordanhill.

The woman was found seriously injured within a flat in Southbrae Gardens on Wednesday at around 6.30pm.

A major police presence was reported in the area soon afterwards.

A force helicopter and armed police were part of an ongoing operation throughout the evening.

Police confirmed a woman had sustained serous injuries.

On Thursday morning, police released updated information.

They said: "A 20 year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged attempted murder of a 51 year-old woman within a flat in Southbrae Gardens.

"Police enquiries are continuing."

A spokesman on Wednesday evening said: “Police were called at 6.30pm on on August 22 after reports that a woman was suffering from serious injuries in a house in Southbrae Gardens in Jordanhill.

"She has been taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where her condition is described as serious.

'Enquiries ongoing'

“Officers are at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”

Twitter users posted about the ongoing police presence.

One user said: "Just in from playing football with my son at Jordanhill grounds.

"Lots of police - I think some armed too in the school etc. Helicopter earlier too."
