Partick workout … fitness studio eyes up empty furniture showroom on Crow Road

The agent says the intention for the unit is to "split up the floorspace into a number of studios".

A fitness and wellbeing studio is looking to set up on Crow Road in Partick.

Two Birds Fitness Ltd has just lodged plans with the city council.

The proposals are for the empty former Furniture Plus charity store opposite the West End Retail Park.

Chartered surveyors DM Hall are representing the Scots-based fitness company.

A covering letter to planners gives some details of what is being proposed.

The agent says the intention for the unit is to "split up the floorspace into a number of studios".

These will be used for different activities, exercise and yoga classes supervised by a personal trainer.

The premises will also have a reception area and toilets and changing rooms.

'Very high standard'

Noise and disturbance will be kept to a minimum, though, according to the agent.

The premises sit within a development of flats built 20 years ago.

The letter says: "The intention is to outfit the unit to a very high standard, taking on board the recommendations of the applicant’s appointed acoustic consultant.

"This will likely include noise insulation measures in the suspended ceiling and other noise limiting measures.

"The way the studios will operate in small class based sessions, will also generate far less noise than conventional gyms, and with far fewer members on the premises at any one time."

The studio will likely open from 6.30am - 8.30pm weekdays and will likely be closed after 2pm at weekends, according to the agent.

The premises do not have a dedicated car park, though.

'Encouraged to walk, cycle'

The agent says: "Any staff, or customers, coming to the studio, will be encouraged to walk, cycle, or use public transport and, if they have to drive, to park in the retail park.

"These measures, in combination with the fact that the actual car park entrance is not on Crow Road, should ensure that flat owner’s concerns will not be realised."

In conclusion, the applicant considers that this proposal will "be good for the area", says the agent.

The furniture store closed earlier this year after a brief trading period.
