A business group representing traders on Byres Road has contacted the Canadian company that saved HMV from collapse.
Sunrise Records bought 100 of HMV's UK stores after the High Street retailer went into administration.
However, 27 stores including the Fopp outlet on Byres Road were not included in the buy out.
The store at 358 Byres Road shut with immediate effect on Tuesday with the loss of six jobs.
Administrators KPMG told Glasgow West End Today that efforts were being made to secure redundancy payments due to workers.
The shop will not reopen and stock inside is being sent back to suppliers.
Fopp's other branches in Union Street in the city centre and in Edinburgh were saved.
The HMV store at Braehead is to close.
Fopp has been a core trader on Byres Road for around 30 years.
Members of bands like Mogwai, Belle and Sebastian and Arab Strap have lamented the closure of the shop which is situated in the heart of Glasgow's student area.
Business group Byres Road & Lanes Business Improvement District (BID) has now contacted Sunrise Records.
Its staff want to find out why the West End store was left out and allowed to close down.
An email says the closure "has hit the local community very hard".
Chair David Howat said the loss of Fopp was "a desperate blow to Byres Road and all the other business owners who are battling against extremely difficult trading conditions".
Many suspect the high rents being demanded by landlords on Byres Road were a factor.
Glasgow West End Today understands that the lease on the building was due to be up in April.
It is not known if Sunrise Records had sought to extend or alter terms with Fopp's landlord.
'Cannot comment'
It seems Fopp was paying more proportionately in the West End than it was for its larger store in Union Street.
KPMG said this week that the premises was being returned to the landlord to secure a new tenant.
A spokeswoman said administrators were keen to thank the landlords and other stakeholders for their support in allowing the business to continue to trade during the administration process.
She said: "I'm afraid the joint administrators cannot comment on the reasons why Sunrise purchased particular stores.
"I can confirm that all members of staff at the Fopp Byres Road store have unfortunately been made redundant as a result of the store's closure.
"The stock will be returned to suppliers over the coming days."
Meanwhile Glasgow North MP Patrick Grady has raised concerns about the closure with the administrators.
In a letter he said its "loss would a signal a significant loss to the cultural and music scene in the area".
