Detectives appeal for the public's help after suspicious death

Police say they understand the local community will be 'extremely shocked' by the 'very distressing incident'.

A major investigation is under way after the body of a woman was found in a flat in the Woodlands area.

The 67-year-old woman was discovered at a property in West Princes Street at around 4pm on Tuesday, 1 June.

Police say they are treating the woman’s death as suspicious.

Detectives with the force’s major investigation team are carrying out an extensive enquiry into the circumstances.

Police say they are following a number of lines of enquiry.

Detectives are working closely with local uniformed officers on the investigation and have moved to reassure the public.

A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death and lines of enquiry are under way to formally identify the woman.

Detective Superintendent Suzie Chow, the senior investigating officer, appealed for the public’s help.

She said: "Whilst we are at the early stages of the investigation into this suspicious death, we are following up a number of lines of enquiry and I would ask anyone who has any information that could assist with our investigation to please get in touch.

“It is imperative that we trace whoever is responsible for this woman's death as soon as possible.

"The area of West Princes Street is very residential and we are sure that there will be people who may have witnessed something untoward in the lead up to the discovery of the woman's body.
