Helen celebrates 30 years of Pampas with charity pop-up

Surplus stock left over from lockdown will be sold over 30 days, with money going to the Beatson Cancer Charity.

A Glasgow fashion boutique is celebrating its 30th year in business with a pop-up charity shop.

Pampas on Hyndland Road is taking over an empty unit three doors down until next month.

Surplus womenswear left over from lockdown will be sold over 30 days of charity trading at the temporary store.

And to keep with the anniversary theme, 30% of all takings - and not just profit - will go to the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Owner Helen Forrest said she was looking forward to giving back to the community after the chaos of recent months.

Volunteers from the charity will help staff the pop-up which opens next Wednesday - June 9.

Helen explained:  “We are opening a Pampas 30 pop-up shop in support of the Beatson charity.

“We are using the empty unit on our row and 30% of all turnover is going directly to the Beatson, and we will have Beatson helpers in it.

“It is all quite exciting and a little bit different.

“It is only lasting 30 days for our 30th anniversary.

“They are delighted and we are delighted.

“No fashion business has traded properly since autumn-winter 2019, and there is a surplus of previous-season stock.”

Lockdown has transformed the way Pampas operates like so many other businesses.

Helen invested heavily in a new website and digital marketing and worked with suppliers on new lines.

And she totally came out of her comfort zone to host personal styling videos to connect with customers.

She said: “I was determined the pandemic was not going to bring my business down.

“I was going to be as determined and resilient to do my absolute best to keep going.

“It was all extremely expensive to do - but we were fortunate that we could do it.

“And what with me doing the styling videos - it’s been quite a change.”

She added: “During lockdown this year I thought, right, what can we do for the local area that is different?

“I wanted my business to give back to charity and our preferred charity is the Beatson.

“I don’t think there is anyone in the West of Scotland who has not been affected by this amazing place.”

It’s not the first time Pampas has raised money for the Beatson. A fashion show in 2014 made £30,000 for the charity.

She said the charity was thrilled with Helen and her team's support.

“We are super excited to have support from Pampas fashion boutique.

“We think their generous offer is a wonderful gesture to honour the store’s 30th year in retail and a great way for fashion followers to support their local charity, based here in the West End of Glasgow.

“Pampas have shown support to Beatson Cancer Charity previously and proceeds from this pop-up shop shall go towards key services offered to patients and their families facing cancer.

“We hope everyone enjoys shopping here and is able to grab themselves a bargain or two.”
