Pedestrian seriously injured in collision with single-decker bus on Argyle Street

Man seriously hurt after he was struck by a bus as he crossed a road in the West End.

A 46-year-old man has suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a bus in the West End.

The pedestrian was crossing Argyle Street near to its junction with Old Dumbarton Road when he was struck.

Last night police appealed for information from anyone who saw what happened.

The accident happened around 9.40am [Monday August 8]. The bus involved was a westbound single decker First bus.

Accident: Man was struck by a bus on Argyle Street in the West End.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital suffering from serious, possibly life threatening, injuries.

Hospital staff described his condition as serious.

The 36-year-old male bus driver was not injured and neither were any passengers on board.

Argyle Street at Old Dumbarton Road and Sauchiehall Street at Kelvinway was re-opened to traffic four hours later.

Sergeant Jackie Dunbar, Greater Glasgow Divisional Road Policing Unit, appealed for witnesses to come forward.

“Whilst we have spoken to a number of people stopped to try and help the injured man, we still need to hear from others who may have witnessed the crash or who have any information that will help us with our investigation.

“Details can be passed to the Greater Glasgow Divisional Road Policing Unit, Govan, Glasgow, via 101.”
