Residents to set up group to challenge Cala Homes over Jordanhill College plans

Public meeting seeks to create subgroup of residents who will represent local views over major housing scheme.

A community public meeting has been arranged by residents this weekend over plans for hundreds of new homes in the West End.

Jordanhill residents are mobilising early in the New Year to create a united front against Cala Homes and Glasgow City Council.

The developer is proposing 420 homes on the former Jordanhill College Campus - and a full planning application for the site is imminent.

But residents have concerns about the scale of the proposals, the impact on traffic in the area and road safety, and the impact on schooling - among a number of issues.

The public meeting will be held at the Halls of Jordanhill Church on Woodend Drive/ Munro Road tomorrow (Sunday January 8) starting at 2pm.

A flier posted locally says the meeting is in response to Cala Homes West's recent public presentation on their plans.

It says: "A number of residents have met following this presentation and have a mandate from 100 local residents to convene this meeting.

"The purpose of this meeting is to form a community working group to best represent the local residents by responding to Cala and Glasgow City Council in a cohesive and strategic way.

"This group will be proposed to Jordanhill Community Council as a sub-group during the community council meeting on January 9.

"In the last seven days contact has been made with the Council by residents and an update on discussions will be provided at the meeting."

Cala Homes, Glasgow City Council and The University of Strathclyde - the site's owners - will not be at the meeting.

The flier says: "We would ask you to attend to ensure maximum community engagement and to achieve a representative cross-section of opinion from those in the local area and beyond affected by these proposals."
