The British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland is calling on volunteers in Glasgow’s West End to help join the fight against heart disease.
The nation's heart charity is seeking volunteers to join its new local fundraising group that will raise money for lifesaving research.
Around 670,000 people in Scotland are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory disease.
Deirdre Curley is the charity's community fundraising manager.
She said: “Our fundraising groups are the face of the BHF in their local communities.
“Heart disease is heartless.
"Too many lives are lost in Glasgow each year, and we’re determined to do everything we can to protect more families from this devastation.
“Any time that you can give will be invaluable, because every pound raised from our fundraising groups will help fund vital research and identify new treatments that could help save lives.
"It’s also a fantastic way to meet new people and make a real difference in your community.
“The British Heart Foundation currently invests over £63 million into cardiovascular research across Scotland and over £16 million of this is invested right on our doorsteps at Glasgow University at the BHF Centre for Excellence.
"We are starting a new Glasgow West End Fundraising Group very soon to help support this.
"If you would prefer to volunteer independently, we have many new exiting individual roles too.
"We rely on donations to support all our work into fighting heart disease so we would love as many people to get involved as possible from the local area.”
DISEASE
From running fundraising events to supporting schools and local businesses, there are fantastic ways to support the vital work of the BHF.
BHF research has helped halve death rates from heart and circulatory disease over the past 50 years, but there is still a long way to go.
Through the public’s generosity the BHF will fund half a billion pounds of new research over the next five years.
