Electric Fields music festival ups sticks to new home at SWG3 venue in the West End

Electrical Fields has been held in the stunning grounds of Drumlanrig Castle for the last five years.

One of Scotland's foremost outdoor music festivals is moving to Glasgow.

Electrical Fields has been held within the stunning grounds of Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries and Galloway for the last five years.

Organisers have now announced a surprise switch to the multi-arts venue SGW3 in Finnieston.

It is a major coup for the West End hub.

A post on SWG3's Twitter feed read: "We’re delighted to be hosting Electric Fields Festival as they make the move to Glasgow, with the full complex being used as headliners METRONOMY, The Vaccines and Frank Turner are joined by Friendly Fires, Nadine Shah & more from 4 - 6 July."

Many tickets have already been sold for the event.

Its appeal for many was that it sold itself as being a family camping event.

That feel will be a long way from what SWG3 has to offer.

Comments being left on the festival's Facebook page expressed disappointment at the switch.

One was typical: "This is so disappointing.

"This festival was in a beautiful setting and brought much needed income to a lovely part of the world."

Another wrote: "So sad to be reading this, we have attended this festival as a family since it began - absolutely gutted it will no longer be a family camping festival."

Electric Fields organisers said it had been forced to make the switch with just three months before the event.

A statement read: "Due to the rising costs of producing outdoor camping festivals and ongoing logistical & transport challenges we have made the difficult decision to move site to an inner city location in Glasgow.

'Same line-up'

"Electric Fields Festival 2019 will relocate to SWG3 with the event going ahead with the same full lineup (plus a few new additions), on the same dates, with all the usual EF stages (outdoors and indoors), Our Kids Electric, plus quality street food & drink.

"SWG3 is located in the popular Finnieston area, with excellent transport links from around Glasgow and further afield.

"The venue capacity is also slightly larger than we normally have so we’ll be able to welcome some more of you to join us.

"We have had 5 amazing years producing the festival there and thank everyone at the castle for their immense support, as well as everyone involved in making those lasting memories in the fields.

"We’ve contacted all ticket holders so please check your inbox for more information, for any queries please contact info@electricfieldsfestival.com

"We look forward to you joining us on the next chapter for Electric Fields as we move to the urban jungle."
