Shirley Manson and Eric Cantona back new concept store at Finnieston venue

The project will open as part of the venue's annual contemporary arts fair, Art Car Boot Sale.

SWG3 is launching a new concept store at the popular West End venue.

Head Girl is an artist-led printmaking project that will focus on the production of limited edition, hand-printed t-shirts and posters.

It will open this Saturday as part of the venue's annual contemporary arts fair, Art Car Boot Sale.

Created by SWG3 and Scottish artist Douglas Gordon (pictured), Head Girl will retail a series of curated designs by artists and friends of the venue.

The first wave of Head Girl t-shirts will come from Douglas Gordon, Gary Rough and Mogwai’s Barry Burns, and will be priced from £36.

SWG3 Founder, Mutley, said: “What we are most excited about is building on the retail element down at SWG3.

"We already have Niche Optical Tailors operating out of the venue and we have exciting plans to further grow SWG3’s retail offering, showcasing interesting and aspirational brands, independents and concept stores.”

Fashion designer Pam Hogg, along with internationally acclaimed artists including Philippe Perreno and Sue Webster have also committed to the project.

Each and every Head Girl design will be limited to 365 pieces – based on the principle of having “one for every day of the year” – and will be hand printed on site.

The inaugural design will come from artist Gary Rough, who was also commissioned to create the brand identity for Head Girl.

Berlin-based artist Douglas Gordon said: “I remember some years ago I walked into an art space in my dear green place and someone said “jee-whizz, man – you are wearing the perfect t-shirt, where can I get one?”.

"So, we decided to make a worldwide t-shirt project right here in Glasgow’s SWG3.”

Head Girl will open as part of this year’s Art Car Boot sale, an annual retail event that showcases work from more than 200+ contemporary artists from Scotland and beyond.

Ticket entry is £3.00.

The new 700 sq ft space is split over two levels and features a workshop-feel, with raspberry stone flooring, floor-to-ceiling windows and contemporary wall art.

Central to the space and visible from Eastvale Place is the hand-printing carousel, which will produce all of the t-shirt designs.
