The restaurant company owned by Glasgow chef Nico Simeone has submitted plans for the former Peckham's store on Hyndland Road.
Six By Nico Holdings Ltd says it wants to create a "casual neighbourhood dining restaurant serving modern tapas with a gourmet twist".
The company’s empire has grown at a pace in recent years after the success of Nico’s first restaurant 111 by Nico on Cleveden Road.
Six By Nico has opened in Finnieston, the Southside and in Manchester, and has also opened a gastro pub restaurant on Great Western Road.
However, a spokesman for Nico said the chef was not involved in the Hyndland Road project and there were no plans for any further openings of Six By Nico in Glasgow.
Papers submitted to Glasgow city council say there would be seating for around 50 people plus an outside dining area.
The restaurant would be open from 11am each day, until 11pm Sunday to Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
'Buzz'
A design statement says: “The internal design will be keeping and highlighting the columns and cornice within the building and retaining its overall proportion.
“This new restaurant will only add to the buzz and social scene for the neighbourhood and be a foodie focal point for Hyndland Road.”
The application is being processed and will be assessed by officials in due course.
Planning members will get to vote on the submission when a recommendation is made.
Peckham’s ceased trading in August 2018 after new owners failed to turn the ailing business around.
The prime premises have lain empty ever since.
A fire at the adjoining Johnson's dry cleaners several months ago is not thought to have affected the Peckham's store.
Hyndland Road is already well served with casual-style restaurants.
Both Nick's and Epicures have undergone make-overs in recent months after being acquired by Glasgow businessman Oil Norman.
The addition of a diner backed by Six By Nico would certainly ramp up the competition in one of the city's most fashionable areas.
Traditional retailers have struggled to sustain businesses in the face of changing shopping habits.
