Around 50 artists and makers will be selling from the arts hub on different days.

Artists and local makers will be setting up stall in Byres Road in the run-up to Christmas.

Alchemy Experiment is hosting a series of festive creators markets over the next three weekends.

Jewellery, candles, prints, art, photographs, watches, and clothes will be among the offerings at the art space and coffee house.

Around 50 small brands and local businesses will be selling on different days.

Members of the public are invited to walk in and browse the items for Christmas presents.

Social distancing and normal restrictions will apply.

In addition, the hub is hosting a pop-up gin bar with West End maker Purist Gin on December 18.

Different

Pierce Houlihan, at Alchemy Experiment, is hoping for lots of interest from the West End public .

“Each weekend we are going to have different artists and makers coming in and they have all got a stall each.

“They are mainly local artists and there are some small brands.

“It changes every day, so people coming in will see different stalls on different days.

“Vegan candle maker Noord Candles is really popular and has been here before.

'Ethos'

“But there are people who have never sold anything physically before.

“It’s a real mixed bag of folk, which is great and in line with our ethos.”

Local illustrator Sophy Louise is among those who will be showing.

Pierce said: “We love the idea of supporting locally-made, not mass-produced products.

“A lot of what will be on sale is hand-made and slow fashion.

“Many of the people displaying and selling are from Glasgow or the Central Belt.”

Alchemy Experiment opened in October 2020 in premises formerly occupied by clothes retailer Man’s World.

The space has hosted art exhibitions and music events and workshops since lockdown restrictions eased.

“We have expanded the team and have artists that double up as baristas.

“But we also curate exhibitions and host events, among many other things.

“It’s predominantly an art space that draws people in with coffee and cakes.

“We don’t use the word ‘gallery’ - we want to be far less formal and encourage people to walk in and enjoy the space.

“We hope people who haven’t been before will enjoy something a little bit different on their doorstep.”
