WestFest to return this summer

Free programme of events across the West End

WestFest returns for its second annual festival this summer and anyone wanting to run an event is being invited to get involved.

Last year, the programme comprised 120 events and reached 100,000 people who saw events over the month.

This year’s festival will take place from 1st-30th June 2024 with 150 events in 60 venues.

Special highlights include the Glasgow Vintage Bus Tour, the Kelvingrove Outdoor Ceilidh and a talks and authors' programme.

Community

A programme of free outdoor community events across the West End is expected to include: The Big Sunday at Kelvingrove Bandstand; Vinicombe Street Gala; Mansfield Park Street Festival; The Queen Margaret Drive Festival; and Sambayabamba & Friends at Victoria Park.

WestFest’s Director is Brendon McIlroy who founded the festival in 2022 in response to “overwhelming demand” for community and cultural events in the West End.

Brendon said: “We really were blown away by how well WestFest was received last year and the good-will people had for the festival.

“After a challenging few years, there really was an appetite for a festival in the West End again and myself and the team felt uniquely placed to deliver this.”

Brendon said: “After a strong 2023, we’re focusing on growing WestFest to ensure it’s accessible to everyone.

“We’re going to be producing and encouraging events all across the west of Glasgow, not just Hillhead as most would expect.”

As well as their events programme, WestFest has a commitment to outreach and education with a range of workshops and projects planned with community groups and a schools book programme.

Anyone who wants to run an event as part of the festival is encouraged to get in touch via the website www.westfest.uk.

WestFest will distribute 50,000 free A5 brochures throughout the central belt in April featuring all event listings as well as promoting events via a new listings website and social media platforms

The WestFest hub will also launch in March where the team will be offering advice and support on everything participants might need for their events from marketing and publicity to event planning and budgeting.
